Are you preparing for an interview? Our expert recruiters at Southwest Search highlight five ways to help you nail your job interview, including preparation tips and common practices.

Here are our top five tips to help you nail your job interview:

  1. Show up on time & dress accordingly

Whether this is a zoom meeting or an in-person interview, be sure to be punctual and dress accordingly. In most cases, a business casual outfit is fine for an interview.

  1. Do your due diligence on the company

Make sure you do your homework! Before the interview, you should have a good understanding about the organization, its accomplishments, goals and mission. Doing your homework will help you contextualize your interview answers.

  1. Be controlled

Maintain good eye contact, sound enthusiastic about the position and ask questions. This shows the individual interviewing that you are excited about the potential opportunity.

  1. Walk through your experience and how it can help solve problems

You’ll need to talk about yourself through compelling stories. The better you are at doing this, the more memorable you’ll be. The first step is to come up with a list of possible interview questions (think outside the box here) and craft a story for each answer. Practice those answers over and over and over so you don’t even have to think about them. They need to roll off your tongue.

  1. Make sure to explain why you are the best fit for the position

This is your opportunity to shine! By doing your research and highlighting specific areas that you can contribute to the company’s overall success, you can stand out to the recruiting manager.
