Top Tips for Retaining Your Team
The employment data (via LinkedIn) shows that it can take up to 60 days on average to open up a new requisition and have your dream candidate start the job when hiring for an internal position.
This is over two months of sifting through resumes, conducting interviews, processing background checks and more. We all know it would be much easier to keep the people we have happy and employed than start the 60+ day cycle again.
So… how do you do it? There are two main reasons why people leave their company: not being heard, and not feeling valued.
Below, we highlight some of the things you can do to keep your employees happy.
- Conduct quarterly check-in’s on how everyone is feeling. Ask them about ideas they have or how they feel their career path is going. Employees who express desire interests in the organization and are not heard, often times will leave.
- When you do conduct meetings, be sure that you listen. Make your team member or employee feel valued and respond creatively and timely to their needs.
- Feeling respected translates into feeling valued. Make sure you think about how you respond and interact with your employees on a day-to-day basis. Greeting them in person instead of G-chatting can go a long way. This instills a more open and trusting relationship.
Today’s job market is hot. Creating an environment where your employees feel valued can help keep you and your company out of the circle of hiring.
